The phases of accepting a weight GAIN

For me,

First there is denial...you know, where you get on the scale more than once.
Then, there is the crying...which actually feels kind of good.
Then, there is the 'this isn't worth it' phase...
And finally there is the pissed off 'well I'm gonna work my ass off so hard that next time it is gonna be different!!' phase...
Last but not least, there is the realistic phase, where you look back and see what you can improve, accept that it just doesn't make sense you gained, and move forward.

If you are lucky you get to the last phase.
And I think I have, though there might be a bit more crying today.

So you guessed it, I saw a gain, a 4 pound gain after three weeks of busting my butt.
And I know that I feel and look different, I know that I have lost fat. When I really think about it I'm confident of the fact. But the fact is also that I haven't been drinking enough water this week. I haven't been eating a balanced diet. I may have been 1500 calories or less this week, but they've usually been in one sitting. NOT a good thing. And my body is just tired. Who knows what is really going on.

So, I'll take this day as an opportunity to reassess my diet and exercise, and come up with a plan to make sure that next time the only phase I will have to deal with is celebration!! :)

Stand by for more details...

  1. I can completely understand how you're feeling, I felt that this week when I saw a 4lb gain and I thought I had done so well the week before! You have a good head on your shoulders and you won't give up.

I had to remember and live up to Lance Armstrong's quote that pain (and disappointment) last a minute but quitting lasts forever.

Learn from this and keep movin!

  2. I think most of us know all too well about those phases!

But you are handling it well, and doing the right thing: taking stock, analyzing, and willing to make any necessary course corrections. As long as you keep going... you'll get there!

  3. Losing weight is simply, but it isn't easy. The hardest part is the mental game and you are getting a good handle on it so you really are on a better path. You'll get there.

  5. It is a process. Your body is adjusting to all this change and action and fightin' like heck to maintain sameness in the face of it. I gained almost 2 lbs between yesterday and today . My eating was fine, for the first time I walked/jogged a 5 k distance in 67 minutes, sweating like I've never sweated before, then ate a 6 inch low calorie sub from subway. No way I gained 2 lbs of fat overnight. It's not black or white. We are heading in the right direction.
